The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Thursday advised the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to suspend the  compulsory requirement for young tertiary education seekers to possess National Identification Number (NIN). JAMB recently  announced the dates for the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) examination  as well as the optional mock examination. Lagos State Chapter Chairman of the party, Pastor Kayode Jacobs, said the call followed the inability of the National Identity Card Management Commission (NIMC) to provide enough capacity to cope with the volume of persons seeking registration within the very short time limit given by JAMB.

Pastor allegedly impregnates secondary school girl The Ogun State Police Command Friday confirmed the arrest of one Prophet Sunday Adelaja for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 16-year-old Junior Secondary School 3 student. Adelaja, who reportedly defiled the girl twice, is said to be married to two wives and also the pastor of a white garment church in Iwaya, Ijebu-Ife community of the state. The girl, it was learnt, said the randy pastor lured her to his house with claims of asking her some questions while her parents attended a meeting at the palace of the community’s traditional ruler in June 2019. Police arrests Duncan Mighty The Nigeria Police on Saturday announced the arrest of popular music artiste, Duncan Mighty. This was contained in a statement by SP Ikeokwi Godson Orlando, spokesman of the Imo State Police Command It said the arrest followed a petition written by an up and coming rap artist M2, who claimed that the Imo state government under former governor, Rochas Okorocha, through the office of the SA on Entertainment, entered into a deal with Duncan Mighty. The deal was to manage, promote, arrange collaboration with other top artistes and sign M2 under YOUNG WEALTH record label owned by Duncan Mighty. “As a result, an agreement was reached with a fee of N11,000,000 paid to him. 10 bullets were removed from my head’ – Angela Okorie narrates near-death experience [VIDEO] Popular Nollywood actress, Angela Okorie, has narrated how she narrowly escaped death when some suspected armed robbers attacked her recently. Okorie, in a video posted on her verified Instagram page, claimed that 10 bullets were removed from head in after the attack she described as an attempted assassination. The actress said the attack lasted for about thirty minutes while no one came to her rescue. Okorie, however, did not disclose where and when incident happened in her post about the attack. Naira Marley vs EFCC: What happened in court on Thursday A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday adjourned until Thursday for the continuation of trial of popular musician, Azeez Fashola a.k.a. Naira Marley, who is facing fraud and theft charges. The case was adjourned following a letter by defence counsel, Mr Olalejan Ojo (SAN), who was not available The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) preferred an 11-count charge against the musician, NAN reports. The charges border on conspiracy, possession of counterfeit credit cards and fraud. One Yad Isril, still at large, was charged alongside the musician. Fashola, who sang the popular song: “Am I a Yahoo Boy?”, was arraigned on May 20 before Justice Nicholas Oweibo, but he pleaded not guilty. The court granted him bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum. According to the EFCC, he committed the offences on different dates between Nov. 26, 2018 and Dec.11, 2018, as well as May 10, 2019. 

ASUU threatens nationwide strike, gives reason The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has threatened to embark on nationwide strike soon. ASUU national president, Biodun Ogunyemi, declared this on Wednesday after a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, held at the Federal University of Technology, Minna Ogunyemi said the union shall activate its standing resolution of “No pay, No Work’ if federal government makes any attempt to stop their salaries over Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). This was disclosed in a series of post on ASUU’s official Twitter handle. NYSC: Corps members to enjoy N30,000 minimum wage in 2020 – Minister Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, has assured corps members that their allowance would be reviewed to reflect the new minimum wage of N30,000 per month by 2020. Dare stated this in a statement released from his media office on Wednesday during his visit to the National Youth Service Corps orientation camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos State. He said, “Allowance of corps members would be reviewed to reflect the new minimum wage of N30,000 per month by 2020. The figure has been captured in next year’s budget. “I have always advocated that Nigeria must invest in the youth. Veteran Nollywood actor,  Segun Arinze , has addressed the viral video where he was spotted chasing and beating his security guard on the street of Chevvy Estate, Lekki. The Nigeria Customs Service, Sokoto Area Command says it has intercepted 640 cartons of dangerous and unapproved sex enhancement  drugs  with the duty paid value of N914.8 million. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the spokesman of the command, Magaji Mailafiya. Police arrest four persons for shooting herdsman in Ogun Men of Ogun State Police Command last week arrested four men for shooting a herdsman in Odeda area of the state. This was contained in a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officers in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi in Abeokuta on Tuesday. Oyeyemi said the suspects; Ogunseye Funso, Ominyin Benjamin and two others attacked one Abubakar Idris and his brother while moving their cattle to Ijebu-Ode from Olugbo village via Odeda, On the 4th of December 2019. The PPRO said the suspects suddenly attacked them in front of Iporo Fadipe Community High school and shot his brother at the back of his right leg thereby causing him grievous body injury. NYSC: Corps members get fresh warning Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has warned corps members against unnecessary journeys, “especially at night”. Ibrahim gave the warning on Tuesday in Mangu, when he paid a familiarisation visit to the Plateau State NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, NAN reports. “Investigation has revealed that most corps members, who had lost their lives in motor accidents, traveled at night. “I have held a meeting with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), to form a synergy to ensure that no corps member is allowed to travel once it is 6 p.m. “We have resolved that NYSC staff would be stationed at various motor parks to ensure that the corps members comply,” he said. NECO: EFCC arrests vice-principal, 2 others over exam malpractice Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested three persons, including a school vice-principal, for allegedly collecting money from students for examination malpractice. This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Wilson Uwujaren, Head of Media and Publicity of the commission on Tuesday. The statement said that the three persons were arrested at Government Day Secondary School, Otte, Kwara, during the ongoing National Examination Council (NECO). It disclosed that the commission received an intelligence report that the school management and supervisors of the centre were extorting money from students writing the examination in order to assist them.
