NYSC: Corps members get fresh warning

Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has warned corps members against unnecessary journeys, “especially at night”.

Ibrahim gave the warning on Tuesday in Mangu, when he paid a familiarisation visit to the Plateau State NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, NAN reports.

“Investigation has revealed that most corps members, who had lost their lives in motor accidents, traveled at night.

“I have held a meeting with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), to form a synergy to ensure that no corps member is allowed to travel once it is 6 p.m.

The NYSC boss further cautioned corps members against boarding vehicles on the road instead of the motor parks, saying that doing that was “very dangerous”.

He also cautioned them against using the social media to spread hate speeches and religious bigotry, urging them to rather use it to promote peace and unity.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Thursday advised the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to suspend the  compulsory requirement for young tertiary education seekers to possess National Identification Number (NIN). JAMB recently  announced the dates for the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) examination  as well as the optional mock examination. Lagos State Chapter Chairman of the party, Pastor Kayode Jacobs, said the call followed the inability of the National Identity Card Management Commission (NIMC) to provide enough capacity to cope with the volume of persons seeking registration within the very short time limit given by JAMB.

ASUU threatens nationwide strike, gives reason The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has threatened to embark on nationwide strike soon. ASUU national president, Biodun Ogunyemi, declared this on Wednesday after a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, held at the Federal University of Technology, Minna Ogunyemi said the union shall activate its standing resolution of “No pay, No Work’ if federal government makes any attempt to stop their salaries over Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
