Preface
It is very unfortunate that many students are enrolled in the field of computer science without knowing why they are studying the course. This has been one of the major challenges encountered in most students. But the question now is, why this challenge? As a result of this, one can easily say that some students are enrolled in the field of computer science as a result of the advices or pressure mounted on them to study the course by friends, parents or even an emulation to be like others or do what others are doing.
It is true that computers are totally in use today, this could also be another reason why students study computer science because they got to know that computer science is a modern course and studying this course will grant them job opportunities but without knowing how the knowledge, skills and ideas of computer science can be applied in the labor market.
It will be very disheartening that students of computer science department in Ignatius Ajuru University of Education prefer more of educational courses to departmental courses. Why this perspective?
They claim that educational courses fetch them more A’s than the departmental courses. How understanding will this be; of what essence studying computer science, When you graduate without understanding the concept of computer science?
But the question now is: will educational courses overthrow departmental courses considering the number of A’s it offers? The truth must be told, these are some of the reasons why most graduate of computer science are unemployed despite the growth in I.T jobs.
This phenomenon has created so many confusion in most students studying computer science that if not guided and corrected appropriately they may end up graduating with just the certificate but not the knowledge, skills , ideas and the entire concept of computer science.
This book is written to properly examine the concept of computer science, its relevance to the individual, to the society and how an individual can apply the knowledge of computer science towards solving the everyday problem of man.
