MKHULU GETS LOVE BACK AFTER 40 YEARS!
IT’S taken 40 years, but mkhulu Jantjie Shabangu (90) and gogo Regina Shabangu (72) are together again!
The couple from Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, walked down the aisle yesterday. They told Daily Sun they brokeup in 1979.
After the break up, the mkhulu left and started living with another woman.
POKE ME BEFORE I DIE!“Even though I was with someone else I missed her a lot.”
He said they used to see each other at community gatherings.
“I decided to track her down and ask her to give her love back to me in February this year.
“In June I proposed marriage and she welcomed me back,” said mkhulu Jantjie.
“After I left she raised our kids and never got married. I respect her for that.”
The couple walked down Kunene Street in matching traditional clothes.
“You are never too old to get married,” said gogo Regina.
“We encourage young people to marry and not do vat-en sit.”
She said it was hard after the mkhulu left.
“I had to raise our kids alone and extend my house.
But I’m glad that’s in the past now. I’m now with my husband and we will continue where we left off.”
She said for many years she wished her husband would come back but never thought he would finally come home.
Their son Mzikayifani Shabangu said he’s happy for them.
‘They are setting a good example for all us,” he said.
The gogo’s sister Agnes Gama (83) said: “I’m happy my sister has a ring on her finger again.”
